Alvin Brenden

Alvin Brenden was born June 04, 1915 on the family farm in the Town of Coon, Vernon County, Wisconsin. He was the first born child of Adolph Simon and Mathea (Solberg) Brenden.

We know little about Alvin, but found his name scratched in the bricks of the old house at Norse Haven Farm. The bricks were carefully removed by Curtis and Leslie (Riese) Bakkum and will remain a treasured piece of the Brenden family history.

Alvin died on February 12, 1937 as a result of an automobile accident. Newspaper articles report that he died of a skull fracture five minutes after he arrived at the hospital in Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin. His sister, Alma Brenden Appleman, told her children that Alvin was up and walking around after the accident and died of a broken neck. Had he been placed in a neck brace, as is practice today, he may have survived.

Alvin is buried in the Brenden family plot at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery, Coon Valley, (Vernon County) Wisconsin.
